Ron Jackson of Bodalla Pub welcomed a crossing, but said its placement was important.
"It's fantastic, and shows great commitment by the council and Transport for NSW to realise that crossing the road in the Bodalla village is a hazard - any safety options are welcomed," he said.
Business owners met with members of Transport for NSW's project team recently to discuss its location.
"We stood with engineers just after the bend near Downward Dog Cafe, and felt it needed to go further north as it was too dangerous for trucks to slow down if it was put there," Mr Jackson said.
"It's not clear with us where it will be placed, but I believe there will be further consultation."
Bodalla buzzes with people crossing the Princes Highway every day, and particularly on weekends when visitors explore the popular shops and eateries.
"It is dangerous," Mr Jackson said.
"We have two grand children who are taken across the road every morning to catch the school bus - it's a concern."
Sharan Callender of Bodalla Bakery said a crossing was "badly needed".
Ms Callender said traffic through Bodalla can be slow and congested at times, or on the contrary, drivers not sticking to the speed limit.
"There's a downhill slope and people don't manage to keep it at 50km, making it tricky for people to cross the road," she said.
"It has always been a problem - it would be great if people kept at 50km.
"We have a lot of elderly customers who battle to cross the road."
To improve pedestrian safety, a Transport for NSW spokesperson said an extended kerb will be installed on the Princes Highway at Bodalla.
"More details will be shared with the community soon," the spokesperson said.
"Transport for NSW has undertaken consultation with local businesses including about the location of the crossing, which was given careful consideration by the project team.
"The crossing will not be placed on a blind corner."
