The cabinet includes just one new face, with Jacquie Petrusma taking on the police, prevention of family violence and the parks portfolios.

But Mr Gutwein has made some significant role changes with Deputy Premier Jeremy Rockliff taking on health, and former health minister Sarah Courtney moving to education, disability services and children.

Elise Archer will continue as attorney-general while Guy Barnett adds trade to his responsibilities and Jane Howlett becomes minister for women.

"The cabinet I am announcing today provides the mix of experience, passion and energy to secure Tasmania's future," the premier said on Tuesday.

"My entire team and I are energised about the important job before us to deliver our plan.

"As I said on election night there is no doubt that our best days are ahead of us and we are strongly committed to the task at hand."

Mr Gutwein said new minister Ms Petrusma would bring strength to her role in preventing family violence as a survivor herself.

And giving the deputy premier the health portfolio reflected the government's increased investment in the area over the past seven years.

"Jeremy has the experience to ensure that we continue to deliver on this commitment," the premier said.

But acting Labor leader Anita Dow said Mr Rockliff would be Tasmania's third health minister in as many years and the third attempt by the government to "get it right" in terms of the state's ailing health system.

"With no stability in this critical portfolio over the past three years, how can Tasmanians have confidence in this government to fix our health crisis?" Ms Dow said.

"Peter Gutwein is simply moving problems and plugging holes in a cabinet with all the depth of a paddling pool."

In another change announced on Tuesday, former minister for local government and emergency services, Mark Shelton, becomes the speaker of the House of Assembly.

The new line-up follows the Liberals' third straight election win, a record for the party in Tasmania after it secured the crucial 13th seat in the lower house.

Mr Gutwein, who declared victory on election night on May 1, had pledged to resign if the party couldn't get the numbers for a majority.

He had gone to the polls a year ahead of schedule after Speaker Sue Hickey quit the Liberals to run as an independent, plunging the party into minority government.

The new cabinet will be sworn in on Wednesday and meet immediately ahead of the state parliament's return on June 22.
