It was a tough battle all game as both sides combined strong attack with solid defence, but both sides were guilty of not finishing off attacking raids and making simple errors.
The Devils welcomed back Josh Scrymgeour, a local junior, who played his first game for the year and really made a dent in the opposition with some blockbusting runs. He will go on to make a big difference this year.
A neat try to Connor Martin opened the scoring after seven minutes but the Bay hit back to equalise soon after with a try to Nathan Davis. Ten minutes later fullback Michael Lett sliced through to score with Tim Wilson converting to make it 10-4 which was the half time score.
Another try to Connor, also converted by Tim put the Devils ahead 16-4 and the Devils look like they had enough of a lead to take the game.
The Tigers, who had been a bit unlucky in the first half, were not to be denied and struck back with tries to Tom Bollard and Sean Smith with Dennis Green kicking a conversion to make it 16-14 with ten to go.
The Devils had been quite disjointed all game and made quite a few simple errors which allowed the Tigers into the game and they looked like their run of lucky finishes was over but somehow they managed to hang on to win the game.
Not the Devils' greatest game this year but they showed their ability to win the tough ones which will help them out.
Full marks to Batemans Bay who were perhaps a little unlucky to lose.
Best and Fairest for the Devils were Jackson Kelly, Josh Scrymgeour and Marcus Lonsdale with Jacko winning the Rapley Meats voucher and Connor Martin the Craig Swadling Award.
Next week we're off the Bega to take on the Roosters in Ladies Tag and First Grade. It is always a really tough and exciting battle between our clubs.
