The shoplifting operation was conducted by officers from the South Coast Police District, Batemans Bay Proactive Crime Team, between Thursday and Friday in the Batemans Bay CBD.
About 3.20pm on Thursday officers arrested a 27-year-old Queanbeyan woman who was allegedly caught stealing items from a supermarket on Perry Street, Batemans Bay. The woman was issued with a Court Attendance Notice for shoplifting, to appear before Batemans Bay Local Court on Monday May 24.
About 4.50pm on Thursday officers arrested a 32-year-old Surfside woman after she allegedly stole nearly $260 worth of goods from a supermarket and a store on Perry Street, Batemans Bay. Following a search, she was also allegedly in possession of an amount of methylamphetamine. She was taken to Batemans Bay Police Station where she was charged with two counts of shoplifting and possess prohibited drug. She was given bail and is due to appear before Batemans Bay Local Court on Monday May 24.
About 12.45pm on Friday officers arrested a 23-year-old Calderwood woman outside a supermarket on Perry Street, Batemans Bay after she was allegedly found with over $250 worth of stolen property. She was issued with a Court Attendance Notice to appear at Batemans Bay Local Court on Monday May 24.
In addition to this, police made a number of further arrests and charges relating to the operation.
About 1.45pm on Thursday officers arrested a 25-year-old Moruya man in the Central Business District due to the man's behaviour. The man allegedly became violent and had to be restrained by officers. He was arrested and taken to Batemans Bay Police Station where he was charged with offensive language, assault officer, resist officer, destroy or damage property. He was given bail and is due to appear at Batemans Bay Local Court on Monday April 26.
About 5.40pm on Friday officers stopped a vehicle on the Princes Highway, Mogo, when checks revealed the driver was disqualified and allegedly had stolen goods in the vehicle. A 29-year-old Moruya man was arrested and taken to Batemans Bay Police Station where he was charged with drive motor vehicle during disqualification period second offence and receive property stolen outside NSW. He was refused bail to appear at Batemans Bay Court Monday April 19.
Similar operations on the South Coast are expected to continue in the future.
