South East Phoenix kick-start new era of South Coast football against Nepean
MONDAY marked a new era of football on the South Coast, as the South East Phoenix FC took to the field for the first time.
The newly named Phoenix travelled to Cook Park to face Nepean FC in the opening round of the Football NSW National Premier League Two season.
The five-game slate started strongly for the visitors, who defeated Nepean 3-nil in the under 14 girls - Lillian Skelly (two) and Caitlyn Cooke scoring for Zoe Anderson's side.
Then in the under 15s, despite goals from both Charli Butler and Beth Tomlinson, Brittany Anderson's Phoenix went down 4-2 to Nepean.
The under 17s, coached by Wayne Paton, lost 2-nil before a Lani Honecker goal secured Phoenix's reserve grade side a point - with the match finishing at 1-all.
The final game of the day, the first grade fixture, saw Nepean edged South East, coached by Norm Boardman, 2-1, even though Lisa Prior found the back of the net for the visitors.
All five teams now turn their attention's to their inaugural matches in Phoenix colours on their home turf, South Nowra's Ison Park.
Action against the Southern Districts Raiders will kick-off at Sunday at 8.30am with the under 14s clash at 8.30am before the under 15s (9.55am), under 17s (11.25am), reserve grade (1.05pm) and first grade (3pm).
