Tuross Head Bowls
It was a tough day on the green for both of the Tuross sides in round 3 of the 2021 Pennants. The Grade 5 side travelled to Malua Bay and found the hosts far too strong. The Grade 6 side were also on the road when they played Tomakin who also proved too strong.
The Grade 5 side could only manage to win one rink with Joel Hilliard's team maintaining their unbeaten run. Their win was based on excellent defensive bowls with their opponents struggling to score multiple shots. They won 20 -14. Carol Williams' team won their share of ends but could not pick up the shots needed. The difference proved to be two ends where they dropped four shots on both. They went down 20 -11. John Monk's side lost their unbeaten run with a heavy 30 - 7 defeat.
Malua Bay had a convincing 64 to 36 aggregate shots victory which earned them nine pennant points. Tuross had to be satisfied with one pennant point from their sole rink victory.
All three of the Grade 6 teams started very slowly and they were heading for a massive defeat. After 33 of the total 63 ends to be played Tomakin had established a commanding lead of 47 to 13. However, the Tuross sides fought back well on all three rinks and gradually narrowed the gap. At the 57 end mark Tomakin's lead had been cut to just 8 shots at 56 - 48 and it was anyone's match. Tomakin was able to hold on and they won 64 - 52.
The Tuross rink of Des Jackson, Mick Atkinson, Ray Downey and Lorrie Bird performed well to go from 15 - 8 down to win their rink 20 - 16. Irene Macdonald's team had the chance to snatch a come from behind win as well but lost the last end to go down 21 - 18. Allan Etheredge's team fought back from 19 - 1 down to 21 - 14 with two ends to play. However, their opponents finished strongly to win 27 -14. Tomakin won the tie 9 - 1.

Another great morning on the greens on Tuesday, March 2, although the windy weather made bowling very tricky and kept us all on our toes. Tuross Head Vets
Tuross Head Veterans Golf on Wednesday, March 3 saw a good field of 67 players register for a Coloured Ball Team Stableford event. The event was marred by the presence of a local crow that managed to 'steal' 18 of the yellow coloured balls being played. Despite the loss of coloured balls scores were excellent with the winning team of Gail Page, Peter Davies, Dorothy Madden and Enid Besant-Ryan accumulating a team score of 49 points for the 9 holes played. They were followed home by John Cox, Neal Watson, Greg Smith and Kevin Dukes with a team score of 47, Chris and Ian Wratten, Ken Brown and Noel Downie with 44 on count back, and then Solveig Olsson, Tony Crook, Warren Hodder and Steve Gardner also on 44.

The infamous Bradman award was won this week by Ian and Annette Manton playing with Ian and Jeanette Miller. NTPs went to Steve Swanbury on the 4th, David Williams on the 6th, and to Shirley Quinlan and Steve Collins on the 7th. David Williams capped off a good day with a win in the Accuracy drive competition.
On what was a morning with rain threatening to disrupt proceedings, a good field of 61 players registered for the Tuross Head Vets golf Special Par event on Wednesday. This is an event unique to Tuross Vets that is based on the regular Par event, but where scores below par result in multiple plusses. It is also an event that tends to favour higher handicappers.
Winner on the day was Gayle MacAlpine with a fine score of +7 for the nine holes played. Ted Quinlan was runner up with a score of +4, with Ian Miller edging out Paul Coffey for third place on count back , both players recording a score of +2. Balls or chocolates were won by Greg Thornton, Rob Ware, Mike Birks and Blaise Madden with scores of +1, and Paul Pereira, Peter McRae, Leonie Snodgrasss, Peg Nevett, Richard Wharton and Peter Frost on square.
The Bradman award this week went to an out of form Kevin Dukes, while NTPs were won by Rob Ware on the 4th, Greg Thornton on the 6th, and by Gayle MacAlpine and Ian Miller on the 7th. Ian Manton took out the Accurate drive award on the 5th.

Athletics
Broulee runners
Perfect Autumn conditions on Wednesday, March 3 allowed the 18 actual runners to record strong runs. There were also 10 virtual runners, who also produced good times. Personal best time were recorded by Sunni West, Crystal Aitken, Greg Castle and Norm Lenehan.
The star of the evening is 11-year-old Tino Lopresti. Tino had plaster removed from a broken arm on Monday and managed to come second in the five-kilometres with a time of 23.03. This excellent time is only seven seconds away from his PB. Even with his arm in plaster he continued to perform with distinction and was able to manage an average time of 23.48 for the five kilometres.
Two Kilometres: Sunni West 7.46, Caitlin Seidel 9.06, Victoria Fleming 12.02. 3.5 Kilometres: Maddie Seidel 28.01, David McCann 30.55, Richard Fisher 31.17.
Five Kilometres: Daniel Baby 19.59, Tino Lopresti 23.03, Angus Murphy 23.14, James Reilly 24.45, Gary Ashton 24.49, Andrew McPherson 24.55, Crystal Aitken 26.12, Greg Castle 26.30, Paige Connaughton 26.43, Stephen Seidel 26.53, Deb Connaughton 27.12, Dave Connaughton 27.13, Jason Domeny 27.17, Zoe Whymark 28.32, Norm Lenehan 28.32, Andrew Greenway 31.02, Julianne Domeny 33.27, Lisa Robbins 33.27, Simon Wall 36.40, John Lightfoot 37.51, Annie Johnsen 40.08, Robyn Kennedy 59.02.
Perfect running conditions welcomed the 27 actual and 9 virtual starters in the Wednesday, March 10 event. We welcomed back the Ireson and Gilligan family. Once again young Tino Lopresti impressed with a 20 second personal best time and he finished fourth in the five-kilometres behind quality senior runners. Greg Castle also impressed as he equalled his personal best time in the five-kilometres, which he established last week.
This evening we celebrated Richard Fisher's 300 appearance with the group. Richard first came onto the scene on September 14, 2011. Since that time, he has regularly helped with the event. He controls the places getters at the finish and helps with the marking of the course, he has removed debris and even mowed the track. He is an asset and great bloke. Well done Richard.
The results are as follows:
Two kilometres: Daniel Greenway 9.04,Laura Lopresti 11.30,Tom Ireson 12.49,Anna Marley 13.06, Alexa Gilligan 16.11, Suzie Gilligan 16.11, Victoria Fleming 21.12.
