Cabra Bowling Group CEO Jay Porter said the day was a credit to the events team that had put it together.
"We were expecting about 200 people to attend, but we had more than 600 people attend throughout the course of the day," he said.
Local indigenous elder Rod Slockee performed a Smoking Ceremony to cleanse the area and his father Tom Slockee gave the Welcome to Country.
Also part of the 1st Dig ceremony were The Prosperous Mountain Lion Dance troupe who travelled down from Canberra to perform a dragon dance.
Mr Porter said the Cabra Bowling group was a diverse group of clubs with its origins in Cabramatta and its large Vietnamese community.
"Each lunar year at Cabramatta we have the dragon dancers come in to dance and we decided to invite them to the community fair," he said.
The dragon dancers threw lettuce for the participants to catch for good luck and presented scrolls that wished prosperity and wealth on the rebuild.
"We started work on the rebuild on Monday with the builder on site setting everything up," Mr Porter said.
"It is expected the club will take about 12 months to rebuild and we would like to thank everyone that has been involved for their support," he said.
