THE Illawarra Highlanders started their Cricket NSW under 13s country youth championships campaign in positive fashion on Sunday by defeating rivals Greater Southern Marlins.
At Keith Grey Oval, the Marlins won the toss and elected to bat first in the Thunder Pool clash.
Flynn Dunn (23 not out) was the lone Marlins to reach double-figures, as the visitors were all out for 57 in the 28th over.
Harrison Deck spearheaded the hosts' attack with 3-7, while Sam Harwood (3-18) also finished with three wickets - as Cooper Garrard claimed 2-8.
In reply, the Highlanders reached the target (7-58) in the 24th over, with Harwood top-scoring with 19.
Jaycob Constantinou did all he could for the Marlins, taking 4-17 from his seven overs.
Next Sunday, the Highlanders will play the ACT/Southern Districts Barons at Victoria Park, while the Marlins face the ACT/SD Kings at Reid Turf Oval.
