Up until COVID, I was a frequent traveller between Moruya and both Sydney and Melbourne. REX has, in my opinion, treated passengers on these routes with contempt for some time. No competition means they move aircraft around willy-nilly when services are disrupted to look after passengers on competitive routes like Sydney-Dubbo for example. Other airlines have tried to compete, Free Spirit Airlines between Merimbula and Essendon is one example, but REX has the political muscle to push them out of business. I, for one, am happy to see the back of REX and look forward to some competition on the routes so I can come back to flying local instead of having to drive to Canberra for customer service and reliability.

Once the pandemic is over, and it will be, it might be a good thing, opening up the route to other carriers.
But as someone who travelled regularly to Melbourne, I was devastated when they changed the service. My parents are no longer alive, so it no longer affects me, but no service from Moruya to Sydney or Melbourne really does affect me and I know there will be plenty of others. One, for instance, is Andrew Constance who lives down here, but is required in Sydney regularly. Every time I have purchased a ticket, the flight has been fully booked.
I hope they change their mind or it opens the door to another carrier.

There was an opportunity several years ago to have another carrier service the area.

Great news re Qantas flying in and out of Merrimbula. We have waited too long.
Jane Enright, Rosedale
Merimbula is not viable without Moruya and vice versa. The result will be higher fares like other state routes Qantas has entered, and before long loss of all air services to South Coast.when currently idle Qantas planes are returned to their previous routes. Local councils just don't get it.
