Last week was sad, the first since the start of Gossip Gal that there was NO news to speak of, but this week, I am determined to hide behind bushes, under beds or even in a wardrobe to get you some goss!

Food pantry (Global Care), 15 Bavarde Avenue, Batemans Bay, is open Tuesday and Friday 10.15-11.45am. They provide beautiful fruit and vegetables. Friendly volunteers offer tea/coffee, a chat and a listening ear if you need. They have clothes for men, women and children. Their garden flourishes with volunteer help. They are now Batemans Bay City Church, with Pastor Cameron, his wife Shelley and their beautiful boys. If you cannot go, let them know. Their motto is: "We are mates helping mates."
Vi Merrett is recovering well after a hip operation in June. Vi was full of compliments for Bega and Batemans Bay Hospital and Moruya rehabilitation staff. Vi is forever grateful to them for getting her back on her feet. Vi: "You can't keep a good woman down!"
Happy birthday to gorgeous Di Coogan, of Bodalla, who celebrated with friends, keeping to COVID restrictions, at the home of Ruth and Roy Lupton in Moruya. COVID certainly didn't stop an enormous birthday cake being consumed. Helping her see in a new birth year and consume the cake were Ruth Lupton, Penny Young, Meryl Henry, Laura Alchin, Jean Vos, Anne Hewitt, Nanda Taylor and Liz Johansen.
Ann Mikelat left the Bay early Thursday after a very rushed and emotional decision to get to the Queensland border before it closed at 1am Saturday. A one-way hire car from Canberra airport was arranged but unfortunately had Victorian registration. Ann headed to Goondiwindi to avoid Sydney and Newcastle and the risk of COVID. She slept at Narrabri and set off early next morning, expecting long queues at the border, but was lucky to find only five cars. When police spotted the Victorian registration, Ann was taken out of the queue to prove she hadn't been to Victoria or Sydney in the past 14 days. Thank goodness for internet banking which proved where she had been. After 20 minutes she was through. After a wonderful time with daughter, Maddi, Ann arrived in Canberra to find her luggage was in Sydney! She required last minute accommodation so that she could collect it the next day! Ann will certainly remember COVID days!
I took my little Avan on a run to the painted silos at Weethallee. The country out west is the best I have seen it in years!
