The secret weapon is the wig, and there will be more than 20 wigs used to set the look and feel look for The Bay Theatre Players 1920's vaudeville production.
There was a time when performers would arrive at the theatre hours early to transform themselves into their characters, or even spend hours at the hairdresser and beautician getting their hair and makeup just right.
Thanks to the wig, an actor can make the most of their day and not worry about having a bad hair day.
Wigs provide a uniform look, they conceal faults and they allow for multiple roles with ease.
They are an amazing tool for an actor or performer, transforming them into someone, or something, completely different within seconds.
On Broadway, there are 130 wigs in production of The Phantom of the Opera, and a huge 274 wigs, hairpieces and hair extensions in Beauty and the Beast production.
A wig is simply another essential piece of the costume in theatre today.
Bay Theatre Players are fortunate to have a number of wigs, accumulated from years of productions, and also available from the personal collections of actors, directors and members of the theatre.
Wigs have transported Bay Theatre Players audiences to a Little Shop of Horrors, into the woods for a Midsummer Night's Dream, and out to sea with the Pirate of Penzance, just to name a few.
Audiences will take a trip to 1920's Broadway in this year's highly anticipated musical comedy production, The Drowsy Chaperone, and there won't be any bad hair days.
