South Eastern operations manager Darren Basterfield said there was a fault on the high voltage electricity network at 5.15am.
Network protection equipment was activated to isolate supply to the area.
"Local crews were dispatched to fault find on the network before supply could begin to be restored," Mr Basterfield said.
"(Crews) discovered extreme weather had caused damaged to the overhead electricity network.
"Crews worked as quickly as safety allows to make necessary repairs and safely restored supply to customers by 7.20am."
Mr Basterfield reminded customers to call Essential Energy on 13 20 80 for information or updates about unscheduled power outages.
"Essential Energy apologises for any inconvenience caused by the power outage and thanks customers for their patience," he said.
