A Marine Rescue spokesperson said they received a call from a concerned person off Moruya Heads who saw the kayaker in the water offshore about 11am.
Marine Rescue activated their Tuross vessel out of the Moruya River, and notified Marine Area Command.
Surf Life Saving members and the Westpac Life Saver Rescue Helicopter were also activated.
The spokesperson said westerly winds were blowing and the current was running south.
The kayaker made it back to shore and was met by Surf Life Saving members, and rescuers were stood down.
The spokesperson said it was a happy ending. A much-loved kayaker drowned near Long Beach only a week ago in wild weather.
'Chaining kayaks near riverbank won't stop thieves': Coast Police
South Coast Police have warned chaining kayaks near riverbanks is not always a safe place, after recent thefts.
"The long weekend is coming up and people may be considering taking the kayak for a paddle around some our beautiful waterways," a South Coast Police spokesperson said.
"If you live near the water and it is your practice that you chain your kayaks to a peg near the riverbank, you may have to reconsider.
"Recently kayaks have been stolen even whilst chained up.
"Consider keeping your kayak in the shed or a similar secure location.
"Remember, don't give a crook the opportunity to steal your property."
