The Coogee Street house, under renovation, caught fire possibly through an electrical fire started by a battery charger, a Batemans Bay Police spokesperson said.
Neighbours saw flames rising from the home when they called emergency services.
Tuross and Bingie Rural Fire Service volunteers arrived and forced access by smashing the front window, police said.
Together with Moruya Fire and Rescue, the firefighters extinguished the blaze and protected a neighbouring garage.
Flames significantly damaged the kitchen and there was smoke damage in all other rooms.
The Moruya Fire and Rescue crew used a thermal imaging camera to assess hot spots.
"Fire appeared to be caused by a cordless battery charger," the spokesperson said.
The fire was extinguished and the house ventilated.
Police said the fire was not suspicious.
