That's what faced Malua Bay RFS volunteers Peter Riddel and David Beare on New Year's Eve.
So many firefighters found themselves isolated and cut off throughout the shire on that terrible day.
Pete and Dave have shared their story.
We thank them for it.
We are also thankful the shire has held the line on COVID-19. We have had no new infections confirmed for 10 days. Celebrate, but don't be complacent. We have had no new infections because we have done the right thing. Keep it up, lest we set our economic recovery further back.
