President of The Bay Theatre Players, Sam Haslam, shares this announcement:
"In light of the coronavirus threat and the emergency measures taken by both Federal and State governments, The Bay Theatre Players Inc. will cease all theatre-based production activities with immediate effect.
"This state of affairs shall continue until a resumption of activities is permitted by the appropriate authorities.
"In the meantime, any appropriate routine or essential building and equipment maintenance will be undertaken during this time subject to all government directives being observed regarding numbers and social distancing.
"So far as planned productions, auditions and rehearsal activities are concerned all production teams are working to put in place remote access opportunities for cast members to rehearse from home independently until such time as our governments indicate a return to social community is permissible.
"The Bay Theatre Players Inc. wish all our members and patrons the very best at this difficult time in our community."
The Drowsy Chaperone
Candy Burgess, Director of The Drowsy Chaperone, Bay Theatre Players musical production for 2020, has been busy looking at audition tapes for various roles.
There are 13 featured roles in The Drowsy Chaperone, and a generous chorus to support the main players.
As the audition process could not go ahead under normal circumstances, all auditionees have been required to film their audition this year!
The Drowsy Chaperone is looking for men between 20 and 40 to join the cast in both Ensemble and lead roles.
If you are interested or know anyone who may be interested, please contact Candy on candybee40@msn.com .
Once the show is cast, we will be conducting rehearsals electronically until we are given the all clear to return to the theatre.
"We are crossing our fingers, toes and eyes that we will be able to proceed, as we could all do with some light-hearted fun after all that has happened in our community," Candy said.
"In the meanwhile, keep smiling, be kind and caring of others, especially our essential service workers, stay healthy and adhere to the protocols so we can all get through this quickly and safely and go back to enjoying our little theatre!"
Run entirely by volunteers, BTP has been providing theatrical entertainment for local audiences for over 40 years.
