Budding young writers can write on any theme this year and can win great prizes.
The competition is for youth who live or go to school in the shire.
The Eurobodalla Shire Council said entries could be of any style of creative writing, and judges were looking for imaginative writing and a unique plot.
The competition offers book vouchers for the winner and runner-up in each age group, and all shortlisted stories would be published in the Mayor's Writing Competition Anthology 2020. All finalists would receive a copy.
Mayor Liz Innes said the competition was about encouraging our young people to sit down and get writing, particularly during a difficult time.
"With current events playing out locally and across the nation, it is more important than ever for kids to have a creative opportunity to express their feelings," Cr Innes said.
"I'm always impressed with how creative the stories and poems are."
Entries are open now and will close at 5pm on Friday, May 15.
Winners will be announced in the Council Chamber on Friday, July 31.
