Comedies to kick off BTP year

Big start to year: Directors for Bay Theatre Players' first two productions for 2020, Roy Smith (The Game's Afoot) and Candy Burgess (The Drowsy Chaperone).
Bay Theatre Players are thrilled to announce their second major production for 2020 will be The Drowsy Chaperone, set to hit the Playhouse stage in October 2020.
The Drowsy Chaperone is a musical comedy of the 1920s, full of mishap, mayhem and mistaken identities that will keep you laughing to the very end.
The Drowsy Chaperone follows a reclusive Broadway fanatic, known as The Man in The Chair, seeking to solve his "non-specific sadness" through listening to his favourite 1920s Broadway musical, The Drowsy Chaperone.
As he listens, his humble New York apartment is transformed into a 1920s Broadway stage, where the characters come to life in front of our eyes.
We then follow the crazy and fun-filled antics of the Broadway characters, from showgirls to gangsters to wealthy divas, in a tale full of music, love and mistaken identity.
One of the Bay Theatre Players' most experienced members, Candy Burgess, will be directing The Drowsy Chaperone.
Candy has been involved in Bay Theatre Players for 30 years as a director, actor and backstage.
Candy and her husband Matthew saw this fabulous show in NYC a few years ago and she has wanted to bring this fun, colourful and witty show to the Bay Players stage ever since.
For everyone interested in being involved in this exciting musical, director Candy Burgess will host an Information Session on Friday, March 13, at 7pm at the Playhouse, 33 Gregory Street, Batemans Bay.
Audition/Information packs will be available on the night or via email helmore2@bigpond.com after March 13.
Auditions first round will be from 10am on Saturday, March 28, at the theatre.
It is a large cast production with an age range of 16 to 60 plus.
The Drowsy Chaperone is a book by Bob Martin and Don McKellar, music and lyrics by Lisa Lambert and Greg Morrison.
