I spent six weeks house sitting in the UK in 8 degree days and listening to the BBC every night and morning to get updates on the terror my friends and family were experiencing back in Australia.
I felt so guilty and helpless. Driving around our beautiful towns, a feeling of surrealism has sunk in and at times, I found I was unsure which road to take as the landscape has changed so dramatically.
Happy Belated birthday this week to Marlies Hampson, that gal about town, I know you had a great day, a little bird told me!
I would like to suggest something. One of the best holidays I have ever had was on Norfolk Island and the main reason I enjoyed it so much was because of the friendliness of the locals. Everyone waves to everyone on the road. Whether they know you or not, they wave and it brings a smile to your face.
Can we all start waving? Can we make Eurobodalla "The Friendly Shire"? Imagine the bumper stickers we could get going! "Wave, I'm from the friendly shire". I'm going to start this week, waving to everyone as I drive around our "friendly shire", so if a stranger is waving to you from her car, it's me! ... and soon I hope it will be you!
The Nelligen market is back up and running after having to cancel the last two months due to the fires and the Kings Highway being closed.
They will be on this coming Sunday between 9am and 1.30pm and the regulars will be there; jam, craft, woodwork, books, collectables, handmade soft toys, ceramics and trash and treasure.
Bodalla craft group celebrated a belated 70th birthday for Meryl Henry at the Bodalla Bakery today.
I know I've said it before but this holiday I had High Tea at The Ritz in London, you don't get much fancier than that! The surroundings were opulent, the clientele top notch, but the food ... not a patch on high tea at The Bodalla Bakery, so good choice gals!
Attending were Penny Young, Liz Johansen, Nanda Taylor, Jean Vos, Leslie Evans, Anne Hewitt, Ruth Lupton, Meryl Henry (birthday girl), Gisela Pike, and Liz Tough.
Welcome to Batemans Bay, Phil and Brenda Rotherham from Conargo. I know you will love it here in "the friendly shire"!
Gorgeous Kmart staffer Deb Bates also celebrated a birthday this week so give her a big kiss when you see her in Kmart! (Well at least a high five!)
My final word for this week: Don't give up, the mighty gum trees have not given up and are already shooting out bright green new growth, determined to live again, even more brightly than before!
