Transport for NSW said it was delaying the return of workers to the construction site.
Transport for NSW Regional Director Southern Sam Knight said workers were due to return on Monday, January 6, but would wait.
"While we understand the importance of the work on the project, our number one priority is to ensure the safety of the community, including our construction crews," Ms Knight said.
"We are working with our principal contractor to ensure that all of our workers and contractors are safe and aware of the delay to restarting. Support will also be offered to any workers impacted by the fires.
"Transport for NSW in conjunction with emergency services, maritime and stakeholders, has also made the decision to cease the opening of the existing bridge lift span to operators of tall boats until further notice.
"The closure is required to ensure unrestricted movement across the bridge for supplies and emergency vehicles responding to nearby bushfires."

Motorists are advised to avoid non-essential travel on the South Coast due to the weather forecast and fire danger rating.
Road users are advised to avoid any non-essential travel as major roads in the region may need to be closed with little notice due to fires, including the Princes Highway, Snowy Mountains Highway and Hume Highways, while the Kings Highway remains closed between Braidwood and Nelligen.
