They would love to hear that good neighbours Richard and Maryanne and Gavin and Tracey are okay.
In true Australian good-neighbour tradition, they were firm friends, but had no idea of their surnames.
"Richard and Maryanne were very kind to us when we lived here and their house is completely gone," a worried Mrs Carey said.
"Across the road, Gavin and Tracey, a lovely couple with lots of kids and grandkids, their house is gone too.
"We have no internet or telephone reception so (we are trying) to get around ourselves and maybe try to find people or someone who knows someone."

The Heron Road and Gannet Place area at the top of Catalina took the full brunt of the Clyde Mountain Fire on New Year's Eve morning.
