UPDATE, 6.20pm: This fire is now at Emergency warning level
A fast moving bushfire is burning to the north of Bemboka.
If you are in the area from Yankees Gap to Bemboka, your plan is to leave or you are not prepared, leave now towards Bega.
If you are in the area of Numbugga, watch out for embers and spot fires. Monitor the changing conditions
UPDATE, 6pm: The Snowy Mountains Hwy between Steeple Flat/Brown Mt and the Princes Hwy intersection has now been closed in both directions due to fire activity.
Motorists are advised to delay their trip as there is no diversion available.
Motorists already travelling in the area should follow the direction of emergency services.

Word from the Bega Valley Shire Council is that the Bega Showground is now being set up as the official fire evacuation centre. Only if it safe to do so and if the road is open, head to Upper St, Bega, if you're in need of shelter tonight.
Earlier:
An out of control fire at Werri Berri, just north of Bemboka, has been elevated to Watch and Act status.
It is a fast-moving fire with embers starting spot fires ahead of the main fire front.
If you are in the area of Bemboka and Numbugga, watch out for embers and spot fires.
Monitor the changing conditions.

If you are threatened by fire
Do not be in the path of the fire.
Protect yourself from the heat of the fire. Wear protective clothing and footwear. Cover all exposed skin.
If the fire impacts, seek shelter in a solid structure to protect yourself from the heat of the fire.
If your life is at risk, call Triple Zero (000).
If you are in an area that has already been affected by fire, there may be small areas of active fire burning for some time. Be aware of the dangers of trees and branches falling.
