The third and final production for the 2019 season, the classic tale by C.S Lewis, was a huge hit with audiences and topped off a highly successful year for the Bay Theatre Players.
The 2019 season kicked off with Dags, a contemporary Australian play by well-known playwright Debra Oswald, which took to the Playhouse stage in March/April 2019. Directed by Di Minihan, Dags was a funny and compassionate look at the trials of adolescence and the journey of self discovery.
A cohesive team on and off the stage, the cast of Dags was a mix of old and new faces, and audiences were enthusiastic and responsive to the story of teenage angst.
The second production for the 2019 season was Macbeth by William Shakespeare.
Following the success of the 2018 Shakespeare offering by the Bay Theatre Players, A Midsummer Night's Dream, director Sam Haslam and associate directors, Kath Joyce and Jack Helmore, joined forces once again to bring the famous tale to the stage in July and August 2019.
The multi-generational cast, aged from 14 to late seventies, brought strong and convincing performances, supported by magnificent costumes, set and lighting designs that transported the audience to the dank castles of the Scottish Highlands.
In between the action of the three main productions for the 2019 season, was the murder mystery show, Sing a Song of Murder. The fun-filled night was directed by Glen Tulip, and involved several of the talented members of the Bay Theatre Players Youth Theatre. It was a sold-out performance, with much fun had by both the cast and the audience.
The 2019 Bay Theatre Players season was a great success, varied in its content and style and appreciated by audiences young and old.
The Bay Theatre Players would like to thank all involved in the 2019 productions, and sincerely thank the community and theatre patrons for the continued support of our local theatre.
The Players will be at Stocklands Batemans Bay this Saturday, December 21, between 11am-2pm, providing information around all the ways you can be involved in your community theatre.
