The news bushfire was threatening Batemans Bay was the last thing the late Joan and Don Learmont wanted to hear in 1994 when they were miles away.
Arriving hours later to find an unknown person had climbed onto their roof and was drenching it with a garden hose was a great relief.
Their son Peter has provided his mother's photographs taken during that frightening time after reading a recap in the Bay Post/Moruya Examiner.
"My parents lived in Canberra at the time and upon hearing of the Batemans Bay fires, they drove to Batemans Bay to check on their house at Denhams Beach," Peter said.
"Upon arrival at Denhams Beach, they saw a kind neighbour watering the roof of the house to protect the house from embers."
Peter does not know who that neighbourly person was, but if you do, we would love to hear.
