Chrysalis Trio, featuring Katie Yap on viola, Kiran Phatak on flute and Melina van Leeuwen on harp, will play at 3pm at St Bernard's Church, Batehaven.

They formed in 2013 when studying at the Australian National Academy of Music and were inspired by their love of nature.

South Coast Music Society president Belinda Collins said their sound made her think of a "languid summer afternoon".

"The trio is one of the most exciting young ensembles to emerge from Melbourne's fertile chamber music scene, and combines outstanding musicianship with a creative, inquisitive approach to repertoire," Ms Collins said.

"Their name is inspired by their shared love of nature, and their time spent in the Royal Botanic Gardens in Melbourne, where they would take breaks from intensive rehearsals at ANAM, and discuss music, nature, history and philosophy.

"Their program is built around Debussy and Ravel's masterworks for this unique instrumental combination. In between, a musical adventure takes you from the French baroque to the world of contemporary American composer Miguel del Aguila."

The last concert in the South Coast Music Society, the society will also announce their program for 2020.

Ms Collins said this year had seen some "exciting performances and enthusiastic audiences", and next year's program would feature Australian music.

"We have all Australian artists and have asked each performer to include a work by an Australian composer," Ms Collins said.

"Audiences will be able to hear their favourites, and the quality of performance and composers they have come to expect.

"They will also be introduced to some new and fresh pieces to keep things interesting. It should be a wonderful year."
