After the formal proceedings and afternoon tea the members were addressed by Trisha Pye from Tech Exec on the future and the increased dependence on the "digital world".
Trisha and her assistant Brad present a variety of free courses at council libraries to help people to become "tech savvy"' and cope with the rapid changes in our lifestyle due to digital technology.
Trisha explained that most phones are now sophisticated mini computers that give users access to a variety of "apps". Trish explained that apps are basically small computer programs that can help find information/directions in most spheres of life. After being involved with computers for 28 years, Trish still feels she is "learning all the time!"
Her advice to members was not to panic with the rapid advancement of technology as there is always an app to help you understand or achieve your answer.
Members were thankful for Trish's reassuring talk and several have enrolled in the courses she delivers.
Members were busy through October with a pleasant visit to Meredith and Richard Bedell's garden.
The following weekend (October 18-20) 26 members enjoyed a coach tour. The tour began in Goulburn at Riversdale Estate with a stroll through the gardens and historic buildings and a light lunch.
On Saturday members explored the beautiful Mayfield Gardens with its many different garden styles. On the way back to the motel members visited Gory 'U nursery/garden near Lithgow. Gory 'U is a wholesale nursery (specialising in Japanese maples and has 300 varieties) and includes an extensive Japanese garden.
On the return journey members visited Gairloch Garden in Oberon. This was an unexpected pleasure as the garden was diverse in nature with surprises at every turn.
Members returned to Batemans Bay on Sunday evening after their very enjoyable tour and expressed their appreciation to David Kemp (fellow member) for his efforts in organising the outing.
The final garden visit for 2019 was at Kay & Mike Hale's large garden. Mike and Kay have been developing the garden and have achieved a very attractive and diverse garden.
The club's final gathering for the year will be the Christmas luncheon/presentation in November.
Members exhibit on the tables each monthly meeting and the person accumulating the most votes in each category over the year is presented with an award. There is also an award for most successful overall.
The club will meet again on January 30, 2020 in the Anglican church hall at 2pm, with visitors always welcome.
