The new dedicated lane turning right into Orient Street would also close.
The council said existing traffic lights would be replaced with new ones at the same time.
During this period Beach Road will be open during the day under traffic control.
Detours would be in place with motorists travelling south on Perry Street only able to turn right onto Beach Road.
Commuters east of the work site could access the Princes Highway via the Old Princes Highway or Bavarde Avenue.
There would be no access from Commercial Lane to Beach Road during the night work.
Pedestrians would be directed through the area as necessary.
The council said all efforts would be made to minimise noise but residents nearby may be able to hear heavy machinery.
Currently the left-hand lane on Orient Street south of the Beach Road intersection is closed to cater for pedestrian access around landscaping work by the NAB building.
Motorists could still turn either left or right onto Beach Road.
This left-turn lane would remain closed until the new traffic lights were installed.
