An opportunity to provide feedback on the patient accommodation service, how it has been used, and potential alternatives, is in Bega on Tuesday afternoon.
Canberra Health Services is inviting anyone with an interest in the service to head along to a forum at the Bega Civic Centre on October 1, from 5-7pm.
There is also an online survey available to anyone not able to make it on Tuesday.
Further feedback sessions are being held in the Goulburn Soldiers Club, October 1, 9-11am; Batemans Bay on Wednesday, October 2, at the Coach House, 9-11am; and at Canberra Department of Health conference rooms in Phillip on Thursday, October 3, 2-4pm.
To register for the feedback sessions, email feedback@communicationlink.com.au.
Communication Link, a Canberra-based communications and engagement company, is working with Canberra Health Services to undertake a consultation program that will be used to identify future options for the service.
The ACT government's investment in the Canberra Hospital over coming years will deliver a state-of-the-art emergency, surgical and critical healthcare facility on the Canberra Hospital campus.
However, the Surgical Procedures, Interventional Radiology and Emergency centre (SPIRE) facility is slated for construction on the current site of the residential accommodation services, regularly used by patients travelling from further afield like the Far South Coast.
Several older buildings on the hospital campus, including Building 5 where the residential accommodation services operates, are being demolished in mid-2020 to allow for the construction of the SPIRE centre.
The accommodation will continue to operate and will be available to outpatients and their carers until mid-2020, but work is currently underway to determine how we provide this service for patients and their carers into the future, CHS said.
Communication Link said it wants to hear how the current residential accommodation services has met needs to date; as well as if they could have better supported outpatients/families during their stay.
It also is keen to identify all possible options for alternative accommodation services in the future.
