Normally the headline act for showjumpers over the Christmas-New Year break, this year's event will instead run across four days on the October long weekend.
"It wasn't an easy decision - we're breaking a 25-year tradition," says Bega Showjumping Club president Kirsty McPaul.
The decision was based largely around rider feedback and the difficulty of finding volunteers over the New Year period.
However, Ms McPaul said the new date would actually align the Cup with other major showjumping events and has already seen similar numbers of entries.
"There was some feedback from the riders and difficulty finding volunteers, so we're giving this a go," she said.
"[The switch means] we've joined in with a run of shows - we'll be leading into a major event in Moruya the weekend after and the State Championships are in Canberra the week after that."
She said it meant travelling jumpers might be able to squeeze in extra events during the school holiday break.
Unfortunately, a major Sydney jump has stripped a few entries from the taller classes, but Ms McPaul said there would still be a competitive field, while lower height entries are about the same.
"The entries for the lower heights are great, but a big event in Sydney has drawn away some of the higher level competitors."
There will be two critical additions to the Showjumping Cup this year that should make the event special for jumpers and spectators.
The club will host the NSW Country Jumping Championships on behalf of Jumping NSW with four State Country Titles up for grabs.
And there will also be a children's challenge for under 14s added to the roster - which will see some of the talented juniors getting a run in the main arena.
The final of which will be held on Sunday, which is when the headline Chester and Smith Showjumping Cup will run as well as the Helen Slater Futurity.
Events overall running from October 4 to Monday the 7th.
A full canteen will be available to everyone across the four days of competition and there will also be trade stands around the Bega Showground.
Last year's main event winner Tori Stuckey will return to try and defend her title, while high profile local riders include Clint Beresford and Deon Williams.
Visitors last year had praised organisers saying the Bega jump was their favourite through the year, so organisers are hoping to see many new and returning faces next weekend.
Ms McPaul said it was awesome to get the feedback from the jumpers and put their advice to good use.
