The 67-year-old is a jet-ski fishing fanatic and is hosting the South Coast's first ever jet-ski fishing competition over the October long weekend at Bermagui.

More than a decade ago, Mr Holub turned his family jet-ski into the ultimate fishing rig. Ever since, he has been hooked.

"I get the best of both worlds," he said.

"Swinging to the front - it's like riding a motorbike, then turn around to the back - I have a fishing boat."

He said it's easy to launch and handle on his own, although he gets lonely at times; so he came up with the idea to host an event to meet like-minded people and promote safety.

"I would love to have company on a regular basis and maybe even start a club bi-monthly or quarterly," he said.

"I wanted to promote something that stipulates the rules and encourages safe jet-ski use.

"It's important to go over the rules and regulations on the day, especially those of distance and speed."

Mr Holub is a volunteer at Bermagui Marine Rescue and vice-president of the Bermagui Hotel Fishing Club. He wants to break the stigma associated with jet-skis.

"I would like to change the public opinion that all jet-ski owners misuse PWC (power water craft), unfortunately some do - they risk the public safety and their own," he said.

Representatives of Yamaha and Sea-Doo will join in the fun over the weekend. Plus the support of Marine Rescue and Bermagui Surf Life Saving Club.

If you are keen on fishing, but don't have a jet-ski, or vice versa, Mr Holub insisted you come along.

"If you have a jet-ski and don't fish, come along and see how it's done," he said.
