Batemans Bay Sailing Club is hosting two events on Sunday, September 29, to help people get into sailing in our beautiful region.

BBSC holds regular sailing days for dinghies and catamarans at Coila Lake near Tuross Head. This lake is fully enclosed and safe but still open to the sea breeze.

Next Sunday will be a practice day both for experienced sailors and anyone who wants to get into sailing dinghies and catamarans.

In recent years the Coila fleet has mainly been 14-foot catamarans like Hobies and Maricats.

There are plenty of those craft around whose owners maybe want to sail them a bit more often. With some help and like-minded company it could happen.

BBSC has a support boat and crew out on the lake each sailing day. Assistance will be available for crews that are new to racing.

BBSC is hoping that participants will become regular sailors with the club.

Also on Sunday, September 29, BBSC will be holding an "Introduction to Racing" seminar in Batemans Bay for anyone who would like to get involved in yacht racing on the Bay.

This includes people who are inexperienced but would like to join the crew on one of the yachts and also boat owners who want to gain some more racing knowledge so they can take part in BBSC's keelboat racing program.

The topics covered will include race day preparation, the essential right of way rules every sailor should know, getting a good race start without crashing and teamwork on the boat during sailing manoeuvres.

The panel comprises three well-known local sailors, Lachlan Brown, Michael Leydon and Tony Sutton.

The seminar will be on at the BBSC clubhouse at Hanging Rock just next to the AFL oval from 10am.

After the talks we will have a barbecue lunch and then head out on the Clyde River aboard one or two of the BBSC yachts to do some on-the-water training.
