About 120 people showed up over two sunny hours, with yachts and the Batemans Bay Bridge in the backdrop, and picnic rugs and camp chairs in tow.
Rock and roll band Shack Shakers, of Batemans Bay, performed, with Jane Urbanik singing and playing drums, Jon Wilson on double bass and Greg Powell on guitar.
Organisers Leisa and Chris Tague have run the informal dancing association, Rock n Rollers, at the Batemans Bay Soldiers Club for about 12 months.
Mrs Tague said with enough community and business support, more outdoor events could be hosted in future.
"By taking it outside, it took it out of the club environment," she said.
"You can go out into public dressed in jeans and T-shirts ... and rock and roll."
When they began running lessons 12 months ago, about 10 to 12 people showed up.
Mrs Tague said they now have about 45 dancers each week and over 150 people have joined at one point but don't necessarily come regularly.
She hopes to move classes to the auditorium so younger dancers can join in.
