Many people in this district are ignorant of the fact that Mr. Hanscom's Star Picture Show is one of the very best out of Sydney, owing to the fact that he pays for the very latest and best films imported and possesses an engine of the first water. The great beauty about the Star Pictures is their freedom from flicker, so that the screen can be looked at throughout the whole entertainment with the greatest pleasure and comfort. Mr. Hansom is not a very liberal advertiser, all the same he gives the public a genuine show, and we feel he is entitled to this free advt.

MR. AUSTIN CHAPMAN, M.H.R., who met with a scalding accident in the train about a fortnight ago is still confined to his home at Woollahra Point, with a bad leg, but is reported to be almost well again.

SHAMROCK TEA ROOMS. - In justice to Mrs. Strahan, who had announced the opening of her new tea rooms in Vulcan Street on 30th August, we have to state that the lady wrote to us from Sydney last week stating that "owing to the scarcity of sugar and the closing down of so many lollie factories as a consequence, she would be unable to open as at first announced.

TODAY'S SALE. - R. H. Harvison, the auctioneer, is very anxious that intending buyers at Mr. James' big clearing sale of household furniture, etc, would attend not later than 2.00pm, at which time the sale will start. The residence, together with Mr. James' other cottage further on in the same street (Campbell) will also be submitted to the hammer. The present offers a unique occasion to the people of Moruya of securing an exceptional first-class residence or furniture.

BOOK AFTERNOON. - The large drawing room of "Lynwood" the beautiful home of Mrs. G. H. James, was filled with a happy crowd on Monday last, when the genial hostess entertained the members of the Red Cross Society and other friends at a book afternoon. A merry time was spent in deciphering the various representations, the lucky winner of the jewel casket being Miss Elsie Jeffrey. During the afternoon, musical items were rendered by Mrs. A. M. Wilson and Miss Rita Luck.

G. HARRISON has reduced his motor fare on the Moruya-Nowra route.

SUDDEN DEATH. - Mr. John Gibbons, brother-in-law of Mrs. W. Ryan, of the Club House Hotel, Moruya, was found dead in his bed at Araluen on Wednesday morning. Deceased had not been in robust health for some time.

PERSONAL AND OTHERWISE. -

Miss Boot (Yarragee), Mrs. Toose (Gundary) and Mrs. J. Lamont (Moruya), who have been on the sick list for some time are now all convalescing.

Mesdames Cheeseman and daughter, A. Simpson, N. McIlvride and Nurse Ryall, took a joy ride to Tilba on Sunday in Weatherby's fine car with "Arty" at the wheel.

Mr. and Mrs. Tuting of Dorrigo, with their little son, arrived in Moruya per car on Wednesday night to visit their grandmother, Mrs. Williams, of "Vivian Cottage", Campbell Street.

VANDALISM. - Some young vandal, we are told, of Mantle Hill has disgracefully hacked one of the ornamental shade trees in the saddling paddock in Moruya Park. There is a heavy penalty attached to this kind of horse play, and it might be as well for parents to warn their larrikin sons in this connection.

NERRIGUNDAH. - (From our Correspondent)

The trial crushing of one ton of stone from Mr. S. Lake's reef gave the satisfactory return of 3oz, 10dwts, over the plates.

Inspector James, from the Department of Mines, was here on a visit of inspection to W.E. Guest's reef, and is very favorably impressed with the appearance of the lode.

Twenty 100 years ago booklets containing articles for the years 1899 to 1918 are available ($5 ea) from the Society's rooms.
