Lights were set up and trucks parked in position as firefighters experienced the elements at night.
The training exercise was a scenario including a fire on board at the Hanging Rock Boat Ramp.
Batemans Bay Marine Rescue's BM 20 was stationary in the water. Firefighters used five hoses to put out the mock boat fire.
One large hose from the town water system was refilling three fire trucks assigned to the task.
Malua Bay RFS captain Ian Barnes said it was their first simulated training of a boat fire.
"We are testing Malua Bay's capacity, fast - in this case on an unusual burning structure," Mr Barnes said.
"Although this is a bit out of area for us, it could happen at Mosquito Bay, or we could be asked to assist others.
"Thanks to the cooperation of Marine Rescue, we have been able to do something quite different."
Mr Barnes said volunteers of Malua Bay RFS train once a month with a range of different scenarios.
