About 5.30pm on Wednesday, August 14, emergency services were called to Gillards Beach, after reports of a missing swimmer. Police said witnesses told police a 42-year-old Victorian man went for a run and swim earlier, but was not seen again, and his clothes and personal belongings remained on the beach.

Officers from South Coast Police District attended and commenced a search for the man, coordinated by the Marine Area Command and assisted by State Emergency Service (SES), NSW Ambulance, Surf Rescue NSW, PolAir, and SES.
