The Borrowers will be the next play exploration on Wednesday, August 21, at 7pm at the Playhouse, 33 Gregory Street, Batemans Bay.
The Borrowers is a children's fantasy novel written by English author Mary Norton, first published in 1952 and adapted for the stage by Charles Wray.
The story of The Borrowers:
Below the floorboards of a large house in Bristol, is the quirky, wonky, miniature world of young Arrietty and her family of Borrowers.
Making use of anything and everything they find "upstairs", from cotton buds to crisp packets, string to Subutteo players, the Borrowers are the original up-cyclers.
However their quiet existence is torn apart by the arrival of a family of "human beans" and soon the quiet ticking of the grandfather clock is replaced by Hoovers, TVs and the sound of Tom Jones on the radio.
Arrietty longs to see what life is like for the new family of giants and her friendship with the eight-year-old Eddie is the opportunity to do just that.
But their friendship risks everything and the human beans soon discover the Borrowers' secret world ... it's time to escape!
Come along and enjoy a great evening exploring this play. Belinda Quick will host the evening and everyone is welcome.
Bay Theatre Players was originally established in 1975 and performed in a hall located at Observation Point in Batemans Bay. The company moved into their own permanent theatre premises at 33 Gregory Street in 1998.
