The road to Belowra was unusually busy on Saturday morning as members of the Rural Fire Brigade, guests and members of the public made their to the official opening of the Belowra Rural Fire Brigade's new fire shed and Eurobodalla RFS Service Award presentations.

Special guests at the opening were RFS regional manager Ken Hall, assistant commissioner Peter McKechnie and area manager John Cullen, along with Eurobodalla Shire councillors James Thomson and Phil Constable.
Belowra Brigade captain Ewan Thomson welcomed every to the opening and thanked the traditional owners for the use of the land.
He said the new fire shed would not only be home to the Belowra RFS and the community, it would be used by other agencies too.
RFS Eurobodalla South Group officer, Mick Anderson, said the new shed at Belowra was future-proofing the area and would be a major strategical asset for other agencies also.
"All services involved in an emergency out there would be closer to the front, which would mean less fatigue for personnel.
"It will allow RFS fire fighters to be there first and save a small blaze from turning into a major one," officer Anderson said.
Assistant commissioner Peter McKechnie congratulated members and the community, before presenting Service Awards to RFS volunteers for a combined total of "630 years of service".
