During his time as president the club has achieved milestones. Mr Veness said he was ready to hand over the role to someone new.
"The club needed someone new with a bit of energy and new ideas," he said.
During the surf club's recent AGM, sponsors presented awards to some deserving winners and elections were held. Long-standing member Dave Law took on the role as club president.
Mr Veness reflected on his year's as president.
"In those seven years, the committee has done some wonderful things," he said.
"We secured $760,000 in grant money, built a new gear shed, completed stage one of the club extension and are well on the way to stage two.
During his time as president the club also established the Broulee-Canberra nippers program.
"There are now 130 Canberra-based nippers who come down and join the coast nippers to get their dose of sand, salt and surf awareness," he said.
The club stalwart looks forward to the season ahead in his new role as vice president.
