Sweeny had the opportunity to learn from current Supercars driver, Anton de Pasquale, in an Erebus simulator in Melbourne last month.

de Pasquale, who races for Team Erebus, trained Sweeny in the 'heel and toe' technique as part of a two-hour session in the simulator.

The 'heel and toe' technique is an advanced driving technique where the driver controls both the accelerator and brake with the right foot, leaving the left foot free to control the clutch.

Sweeny then had the opportunity to put the new skill in practice two weeks later at the Norwell Motorplex in Queensland with Paul Morris, a former Bathurst 1000 winner.

He took part in a 'karts to cars' program, a bridging program for go-kart racers who are looking to get into cars.

Sandwiched in between was a second-placed finish at the NSW State Titles at Eastern Creek Raceway.

Sweeny qualified in pole position after four heats, but quickly dropped back to third place. He was then taken out during a move for first-place, and briefly dropped back to fifth place.

He managed to work his way back to third by the end of the race, and penalties made sure he finished in second position.

Sweeny also competed at the Australian Championships in Emerald on July 20, but problems with his kart resulted in a 14th-placed finish.

He plans to race in the Toyota 86 series next year, and the family needs sponsorship totalling $100,000.
