A large grassfire in Moruya caused thick, black smoke on Saturday afternoon, prompting a rapid response from the shire's fire brigades.
The fire, located on the eastern side of the Princes Highway north of Moruya, was contained in approximately one-and-a-half hours.
A Moruya Fire and Rescue spokesperson said they first responded at approximately 1pm on Saturday, July 13.
The spokesperson said crews observed very dark and fast-moving smoke coming from the scene, indicating a hot fire with large amounts of fuel.
Fire and Rescue Moruya were joined at the scene by RFS Moruya, RFS Batemans Bay, RFS Broulee, RFS Malua Bay, RFS Bingie, Fire and Rescue Batemans Bay, Fire and Rescue Narooma, and Fire and Rescue Ulladulla.
Ambulance and police also attended the scene, and police set up roadblocks along George Bass Drive.
The Fire and Rescue spokesperson said no property or livestock was lost in the blaze.
