Brian Boulter was diagnosed with melanoma last August.
While his prognosis was initially positive, it was recently discovered he had developed leptomeningeal disease, a rare complication of cancer for which there is no cure.
In order to support Mr Boulter, his children - three of which are aged under 13 - and partner of 19 years Jemma Wright, his friend and bandmate Sats Kramer is organising a music night fundraiser at the Murrah Hall.
Over 30 local businesses have already gotten behind it.
"He played countless gigs at the Murrah Hall supporting the hall," Mr Kramer said.
"He played a lot of charity events, he played at CRABs' research events for free.
"He was a musician, it was the skill he could use to give back."
Described as a "gentle soul" and "passionate musician" by Mr Kramer, Mr Boulter is a bassist who played in many Far South Coast bands, such as Against Vast Odds, Laika's Howl and Critical Fever.
"He could play metal, he could play blues, he could play rock," Mr Kramer said.
He was a musician, it was the skill he could use to give back.
- Sats Kramer said of his friend Brian Boulter
He said after the 49-year-old's diagnosis with leptomeningeal disease he had struggled with his memory and was in a lot of pain.
"He's in and out," Mr Kramer said.
"He has his moments of clarity and moments when his brain is not 100 per cent."
"He forgets short-term things, he'll be hungry then he'll forget that he's hungry."
A Variety Night for Brian will be held on Saturday, July 20 from 6.30pm at the Murrah Hall, 2989 Tathra-Bermagui Rd. Tickets are $20.
The line-up includes Martin Fowler, Maggie McKinney and the Footloose Strangers featuring Bob Harris, Jacqui Holmes and the Scaramouche, Critical Fever, Fractured Minds and The Gulls.
Raffle tickets are being sold in Bermagui shops with $2500-worth of prizes.
Mr Kramer thanked the businesses, musicians and community members who had supported the fundraiser.
