After many weeks of rehearsing Macbeth under the working fluorescence of standard strip lighting, this last week has seen Director of Lighting and Sound, Martyn Lloyd, working hard to put the play into its own time and place.
Martyn has spent hours building soundscapes to underscore the witches and the battles, adding the edge of drama that helps an audience feel connected to the actor on stage.
The cast has waited patiently onstage, in the wings and enjoyed copious cups of tea in the Green Room, while atmospheric lighting has been programmed layer by painstaking layer.
The storyline portrays the supernatural, betrayal, murder, treason, battles and hauntings all wrapped up in the genius of Shakespeare's authorship.
Such darkness requires a hauntingly beautiful lighting design and Martyn Lloyd has delivered scene by scene.
He has created an enthralling and visually stunning environment for the audience and for the actors to immerse themselves within the walls of the castle of the clan Macbeth.
