Manager of the Commonwealth Bank at Moruya, Mark Southwell, will speak about internet banking, cyber scams and how to protect yourself, at the next meeting of the Eurobodalla Seniors Computer Users Group.

This talk is timely because last year Australians were swindled out of almost half a billion dollars, an increase of 44 per cent over the previous year - and the reported losses are just the tip of the iceberg, according to the ACCC's Delia Rickard. Of that total, the ACCC estimates that cybercrime scams in 2018 amounted to $367.9 million in losses.
Following the break for morning tea, small groups will cover how to use Excel for comparisons of electricity offers, a continuation of Snapseed which is a photo app specifically for tablets, a new Mac group, which we will now feature each month, plus our usual genealogy group with renowned genealogist Cora Num, and our Help Desk which provides help on PCs, tablets and smart phones.
The group's next monthly meeting will be at 10am on Wednesday, July 3, at Moruya Golf Club.
At EuroSCUG's June meeting the speaker was Professor Helen Hasan from the University of Wollongong, who, for over 30 years, has conducted research on how life has changed with advances in digital technology.
Professor Hasan was speaking as Director of Living Connected, a not-for profit community enterprise which she founded. Helen was housebound for several years and the internet provided her only link to the outside world, making her realise how difficult it must be for those who had poor computer literacy skills.
On her return to the workplace Helen founded Living Connected which provides services for the social well-being of elders, helping them to remain independent, connected and engaged through digital inclusion.
Living Connected has a team of trained mentors who run drop-in centres and undertake home visits on the South Coast. They provide a range of personalised services to assist older people with their computers, tablets and phones so they can reap the benefits of the digital world. The mentors focus on individual needs and interests to maintain and improve wellbeing.
This service is currently being extended to serve the Eurobodalla and Helen was interested in meeting people who were willing to serve as mentors, as well as those who would benefit from personal assistance.
EuroSCUG members meet at 10am on the first Wednesday of the month at Moruya Golf Club, and local area groups meet regularly in towns along the Eurobodalla. Monthly tablet groups (iPad and Android) are also held. Visitors are most welcome.
