Despite leading 17-14 at half time, the Boars couldn't muster any points in the second, and let in 38 unanswered points in the last 25 minutes.
Despite the heavy scoreline, Boars coach Matt Ryan was happy with his side's performance, but recognised a need for more playing depth.
"I'm definitely not disappointed, even though the scoreline blew out," he said. "We need a bit more depth to take on a team like Taralga.
"We traveled lightly, and some of the older fellas ran out of legs with 20 minutes to go.
"Taralga applied a lot of pressure in the back end of the game, and were able to score two intercept tries and three tries from kicks.
"We're confident that if we had more fresh legs, we would have been in a better position at the end of the game."
Ryan said the scoreline didn't reflect the quality of the match.
"The first 60 minutes were really tight," he said. "We had an opportunity to take the lead again through a penalty with 25 minutes to go.
"We chose not to take that kick because momentum was on our side at the time, and the feeling was we could put more pressure on them."
The Boars will now take on the last-placed Broulee Dolphins in a local derby at Captain Oldrey Park, but Ryan isn't ready to take the Dolphins lightly.
"We haven't wrapped anything up yet," he said. "The next three weeks we're either at home or in Broulee, so we get some good home-ground advantage.
"Once that run is done we'll have a clearer indication of whether we're finals bound or up for a fight for fourth position.
"We've got troops returning over the next couple of weeks, and we can match it with anyone at full strength."
