Hope House relies heavily on donations to be able to continue providing a service to homeless men in the Batemans Bay area.

They have been struggling to provide leisure activities for the residents due to lack of finances however, with the generosity of local tackle shops in Batemans Bay, the residents are now able to enjoy some leisure time and take some time out to de-stress on the banks of the Clyde River catching a fish or two and experiencing the simple pleasures that the Eurobodalla has to offer.

Staff and residents of Hope House would like to extend a most sincere and heart-felt thank-you to Harry's Bait and Tackle, Charlie's Tackle World, BCF, and The Compleat Angler for their kind support to these fellows.

I have no doubt that the addition of this new equipment will be life changing and life saving for the Hope House residents who are struggling to re-enter society and become contributing members of our community.

An amazing new roundabout and realignment, plus landscaping around the new Tomakin roundabout has turned what was a back road into the main entry into Tomakin, increasing traffic enormously, especially past the kiddie playground.

Yet the footpath has not been extended as part of the works. Similarly, the footpath from the roundabout to the Moorings complex - licensed restaurant, supermarket, mini golf, driving range etc stops after 10 metres.

It would have been great to extend it to the shop, at least; pedestrians have to walk along the road (there has been at least one pedestrian fatality in the past year or so) or follow a muddy track for 100-odd metres - impassable for wheelchairs, prams, etc except on dry days.

But hey - at least the cars get a better route.

The Newborn Intensive Care Foundation (NICF) is urging people to turn on their ovens and take the bake challenge to raise $60,000.

Funds raised will buy a state-of-the-art ventilator to support a baby's breathing, preventing brain damage and lung damage in sick newborn babies.

NICF Chairman Peter Cursley said "Premature babies in the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) are fragile and often rely on assistance to breathe."

"Newborns should not have to start their lives struggling for it, but some will. The best we can do is help create an ideal environment for them to relax, sleep and grow - while minimizing as many risks as possible to their physical and mental development."
