The South Coast Marlins competed strongly in the Brumbies Provincial Championships held at Canberra's ANU Norths Oval on the Queen's Birthday weekend.
The Marlins, made up of the best players from the South Coast division, played ACT/Monaro and Southern Inlands in cold and unfamiliar conditions.
South Coast took on the competition favourites, Southern Inland, in its first match, and didn't disgrace itself in a 32-14 loss.
The score line didn't reflect the strength of the team's performance, as a five-minute lapse just before half time let in three quick tries.
The second game was against a very big ACT/Monaro team, which brought another strong performance from the Marlins.
South Coast went into half time with a lead, but another lapse midway through the second half gave ACT/Monaro a 24-7 win.
The Brumbies selectors named a Brumbies Provincial team to play in early September, and six members of the Marlins were included.
Ashley Kenny (Batemans Bay), James Bell (Batemans Bay), Riley Turner (Braidwood), and Justin Dariol (Braidwood) were named in the starting side, while Sam Northcott (Braidwood) and Lachlan Bannerman (Bungendore) were named as shadow players.
