Desperate to return to the winner's circle, the hosts came out of fire and held a four-point advantage at quarter-time.
On the back of tough defence, the black and gold extended their advantage to nine by half-time.
But the third quarter was when the match was won, as the Cubs outscored their opponents 23-16, which saw the lead balloon to 16 points heading into the final term.
The Tigers continued to press in the final period, to run out winners 92-75 - with Riley O'Shannessy (29 points) and Gavin Costain (23) leading the way.
Next up for the Cubs, who are now 6-6 on the season, are the Newcastle Hunters at 6pm Saturday at the Tigers Den.
