A search is underway for the couple who fled their car after it became stuck in a ditch at about 4pm on Wednesday, May 22.
A Batemans Bay police spokesman said the 43-year-old man and the woman were not considered dangerous "in the context of being violent towards someone".
"There is nothing to suggest that this would occur," he said.
The spokesman said the vehicle was spotted on Beach Road before it did a U-turn at Flora Crescent.
The Subaru driver then drove on Beach Road, Bavarde Avenue and Gregory Street before reaching the Princes Highway.
The driver continued on the wrong side of the road near roadworks close to Cranbrook Road and near roadworkers.
Police ceased their pursuit for safety concerns.
The car became stuck in a ditch. The pair left the car and fled west into dense bushland.
A helicopter search was called off when it became too dark.
Investigations are continuing.
