A NSW Police spokesman said police attempted to stop the pair, believed to be a man and a woman, who were driving in a Subaru, at about 4pm on Wednesday, May 22.
"The vehicle failed to stop, a pursuit commenced but was terminated a short time later for safety concerns," the spokesman said.
The car was found abandoned south of the Batemans Bay industrial area at about 4.10pm.
The spokesman said it appeared the car had run off the road and landed in a ditch.
The Moruya-based Westpac Life Saver Rescue Helicopter, Lifesaver 23, was called to search for the fugitives.
A Lifesaver 23 spokesman told the Bay Post/Moruya Examiner their search was called off when it became too dark to continue.
Inquiries are ongoing and a police search is underway to locate the pair.
It was the second police pursuit that day involving Batemans Bay drivers.
In an earlier incident, police pursued a vehicle on the Kings Highway at Braidwood, which was thought to be involved in a fraud incident at a service station in Batemans Bay.
The pursuit was terminated for safety reasons and a red Commodore sedan was later found abandoned in the ACT.
