Tuross Head men's golf
Saturday, May 18: Tuross Head men's golf monthly medal competition, held over three divisions, was strongly competed for last Saturday on a course that is advancing in playing standards, with the addition of more improvements, each week. Dave Bray led home the A grade golfers with a score of 67 nett strokes ahead of Ken Brown with 71 strokes and Craig Garn, who finished third on a countback. Dave Bray had the lowest off the stick round with 77 strokes. The best handicap round of the day was played by B grade golfer Mitchell Smith who returned a card of 62 nett. Jim Wade and Peter Garn, both with 70 strokes, filled the minor positions. Mitchell Smith also won the day's putting competition with a low 23 putts. C grade golfer Paul Israel won his division with 68 nett. Trevor Jones 70 was second placegetter and Terry Milliken filled third spot with a nett 72. The Golden Shot award, played on the second hole, was won by John Phyland with a close 2.43 metres. Nearest the pins were won by: A grade golfer Craig Garn with 2.86m on the 4th hole. Bob Hay won the 6th with 1.31m and Brad Doolan the 7th with 2.8m. Roger Taylor was the closest B grade golfer on the 4th hole with 2.65m. Greg Smith was best on the 6th with 2.29m and Frank Pomfret was awarded the 7th with 4.62m. C grade golfer Paul Israel won the 4th hole with 2.55m. Terry Milliken the 6th with 44.11m and Graham Sindel the 7th with 7.35m.

The coming Saturday men's competition will be the monthly Scoty stableford round. Thursday's stableford medley was won by David Schmid with 37 points. Trevor Jones also scored 37 followed by Richard Wharton and Peter Mostyn both on 35 points. Nearest the pin winners were Ian Miller, Bob Hay and Leonie Snodgrass.
Tuross Head Ladies Golf
The weather on Tuesday was so warm, it made playing golf most enjoyable for the 19 ladies who set out to play in a single stableford event. The winner of division one was - Leonie Snodgrass with 28 points, followed by - Leonie Doolan also with 28 points. Division two winner was - Annette Manton with 35 points, followed by - Kaye Lunt with 31 points. In division three it was - Jennifer Gray with 33 points, followed by - Lyn Benger with 30 points. Balls went to - Jeanette Miller, Ann Ware, Marie Mapleson, Chris Wratten, Shirley Quinlan & Judy Apps. The Golden hole in division one was won by - Annette Manton & in division two it was - Shirley Quinlan. Nearest the pin on the 6th - Gayle MacAlpine & on the 15th it was - Shirley Quinlan. Next week will be a 3 BBB stableford aggregate event.
Tuross Head Vets
Results for May 22. On yet another beautiful morning in Tuross a good field of 58 players registered for the 2 Person Irish Team Stableford event. Winners on the day were the team of Derek Hoare and Peg Nevett with a score of 34 Stableford points. Runners up were husband and wife pairing Ray and Margaret Downey following closely behind on 33. They in turn were followed home by Chris and Ian Wratten, and Frank Pomfret and Paul Pereira on 29. Balls or chocolates were won by Ian and Jeanette Miller, Rick Brake and Richard Wharton, Kay and Allen McLeod, and Ross Davidson and Neil Mather, all on 28, and finally Bruce Martin and Steve Johnston on 27.Greg Bush and Geoff Bellingham struggled with their handicaps and were the unfortunate winners of the infamous Bradman award this week. Nearest the Pins went to Noel Downie on both the 4th and 6th, and to Margaret Downey and Wal Williams on the 7th, Margaret's drive looking like a hole in one prospect until it rolled less than a metre past the hole. Peter McRae took out the Accuracy drive with a very long and accurate drive down the centre line on the 5th.

Moruya Women's Golf
Ideal conditions saw 27 Moruya Women Golfer's play in the 3rd Round of the Ladies Club Championships on Wednesday, 22nd May. In a tightly contested round, congratulations goes to Div.1 winner Barbara Kennedy with 78 nett and runner-up Kym Batt with 79 nett; Div. 2's winner Edith Jones with a notable 75 nett and runner-up Val Moore with 76 nett and Div. 3's Phyllis Reid who took out 1st place with an outstanding 72 nett and runner-up Joan Hosking with 76 nett on C/B. NTP winner's were Div.3's Pat Cooper on the 5th, Div.1's Jan Lumsden on the 6th and Div.2's Lyn Gibbs on the 12th. Barbara Roberts "let it fly" achieving the longest drive in Div.2.
